At JSW, our NDIS program focuses on person-centred support, helping participants pursue interests and achieve their goals. One such example is our participant’s journey in the Bunbury City Library’s Wearable Art Competition.

With a passion for sustainability and creativity, Emilie began planning a unique dress design in March 2024, using non-recyclable materials like chip and lolly packets. “I wanted to show that even waste destined for landfill could become something beautiful,” the participant explained. With the help of family, friends, and JSW staff, the materials were collected, cleaned, and sewn onto two upcycled dresses to meet competition requirements.

The hard work paid off when the her design was shortlisted for the October 2024 finals. With support from her JSW worker, they confidently walked the runway. “Although I didn’t win, I learned I could overcome my anxiety and follow through on my passions.”

This achievement highlights the power of creativity, resilience, and community support!
