Natasha Farmer, Career Development Officer, Bunbury
I fell into my first career development job at the tender age of nineteen, thanks to a recommendation from a family friend who worked at Drake International.
I soon discovered that I loved working in community-centred roles where I could make a significant positive impact on the lives of others.
Twenty-plus years on, having worked for major not-for-profits, including Anglicare and Mission Australia, mining giant Hamersley Iron (now Rio Tinto) and Centrelink, I’m relishing my Jobs and Skills Centre role supporting job seekers of all ages and backgrounds.
There’s nothing ‘tick and flick’ about our Jobs and Skills Centre services. I’ll give you all the time you need, and you can trust that I’ll draw on all my expertise and experience to help you find fulfilling work you enjoy.
I specialise in supporting mature-aged jobseekers (over 46) to transition successfully into new careers. I also work with people with disabilities and job seekers with special needs facing complex barriers to finding work.
Besides working one-on-one with my clients, I also deliver career development workshops at Bunbury Regional Prison and to senior school students.
Outside of work, I raise funds for mental health, cancer and community-based programs like Ronald McDonald House, for which I raised $15,000. I’ve also served on committees for NAIDOC week and Doors Wide Open.
Last but absolutely not least, I’m a total quiz night tragic who tests her awesome general knowledge skills at least once a week.
